Selah Morgans was founded in 1999 and there are Morgans with the "Selah" prefix across the U.S, and as far away as Belgium, the UK, the Netherlands, and Canada. We enjoy sharing our enthusiasm and love of the breed with newcomers, other breeders or owners. Our breeding philosophy - There are many facets to consider in the art of breeding horses. This includes genetics (pedigrees) and this is only "one tool in the toolbox" that we use in planning a mating.
JMF Moonlight Bandit is a line bred stallion and the cornerstone of our program, and he provides us an opportunity to make an indelible mark by producing exceptional Morgan horses that are consistent in quality and athletic ability. With Windhover Regency (Beamington son) appearing on the top and bottom of Bandit's pedigree on four lines, it increases the probability (genetic influence) that he will pass on the valuable and highly respected qualities of his famous ancestors. Our mare's pedigrees are considered "outbred" to Bandit's lines and this practice complements the resulting foals by adding genetic variation to keep the bloodline healthy and free of excessive inbreeding/line breeding.
The sire and dam should also be excellent examples of the Morgan breed that will produce a foal that is an improvement. The real "magic" to a successful breeding program is in knowing when to introduce genetic diversity (hybrid vigor) and we believe that is the key. It is also a practice that has proven to be quite successful for centuries for sport, performance and horse racing.
